How to become a christian

WELCOME

I want to welcome you to our Website and ask you a question. If you died today, are you sure you would go to the heaven mentioned in the Bible? Most people would immediately respond, “Well of course I’m going to heaven.” Not so fast! Please take a few moments to compare your experience with what the Bible says about true salvation.

The central theme of the New Testament is God’s love for you as an individual. This love was revealed through Christ’s (God the Son) coming into the world and living among men, His dying on the cross, and rising from the dead. Through Christ’s death God offers you forgiveness for your sins, and through His resurrection the promise of everlasting life. Christ died and rose again for the whole world, but for you to become a Christian is an individual matter. The only way to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is to accept His offer of forgiveness and everlasting life. The following Scripture passages show God’s part and yours. Read each verse and believe it, for it is the Word of God speaking to you.

GOD’S LOVE IS REVEALED:

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

God offers to you not only an abundant life here and now but also a life, which is eternal.

MAN IS SINFUL:

Rom 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

SIN HAS A PENALTY:

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

This penalty is separation from God forever in a place of eternal suffering and torment!

The alternative is to personally receive God’s free gift, which is pardon for sin and provision of life everlasting!

CHRIST PAID THAT PENALTY:

Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

God sent Christ (God the Son) to die in your place and to pay the penalty for your sin so that you can be reconciled to Him!

SALVATION IS A FREE GIFT:

Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,

Eph 2:9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Grace means underserved favor. God graciously offers to you what you could never do for yourself. God’s gift to you is free. You do not, and cannot, work for a gift. All you need to do is receive it. Believe with all your heart that Jesus Christ died for you to provide deliverance from your sins.

The Bible conditions eternal salvation solely upon simple faith alone in Christ alone. To express faith in Jesus is to be convinced that he has given eternal life to one who simply has believed in Him for it.

No act of obedience, preceding or following faith in Jesus Christ, such as a promise to give up all known sin, pledge of obedience or surrendering to the Lordship of Christ, may be added to, or considered part of, faith as a condition for receiving eternal life!

John 3:36 states this well.

John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

Faith alone in Christ alone gives everlasting (eternal) life instantly!

WE MUST RECEIVE CHRIST.

(John 1:12 NKJV) But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

Receiving Christ (God’s Son) is accepting what He has done for you.

Picture, if you will, Jesus Christ standing at the door of your life. Invite him in. He is waiting to be received into your life.

You need to receive Christ now! If you would like to be saved (have your sins forgiven), pray a prayer something like this:

Dear Lord, I know that I am a sinner and that I need your forgiveness. I believe that Christ died in my place to pay the penalty for my sin and that He rose from the dead. I now invite Jesus Christ to come into my life as my personal Savior. Thank you for making me your child. Help me learn to please you in every part of my life.

YOU ARE A CHILD OF GOD FOREVER!

When you trusted Christ for salvation several things happened:

(1) Your sins were forgiven!

Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

(2) You became a child of God!

John 1:12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:

(3) You were made an heir to all of God’s blessings!

Rom 8:16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Rom 8:17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

(4) You now possess eternal life!

1 John 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?

(1) Write down the date, location, and time that you received Christ as your personal Savior. This will be helpful to you in the future.

(2) Start attending a Bible-believing church without delay.

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

(3) Speak to the pastor of that church about baptism and it’s meaning for you.

(4) And lastly, seek to pray for and speak to others about Christ who saved you from eternal destruction!
